MTV MUSIC AWARDS BANGKOK

Dear Yesterday,

2006 Hong Kong. MTV Asia and my good friend Chris Lee approached me about designing and sculpting the MTV Asia music award. An animated story was being created in Sweeden ( of all places ) that was suposed to run throughout the entire awards. The animation was awesome for the time and budget. Very Gorillaz meets Book of Eli - Euro-Anime style.

I was supposed to work on the very first MTV award ( Bronze popcorn ) with one of my mentors in NYC and it never happened so this project was a kick. KORN was among the many performers from all over Asia that came up to accept the award I had created and it was a good way to make up for the missing the boat on the first MTV award.

I think we fabricated about 50 of these in all. Most of them went out that night to the celebrities. I was supposed to be at the show that night in Bangkok but I needed to fly back to the states to be with my father as his health was deteriorating rapidly from Cancer. They ran a documentary on big screens in the concert hall. Some of the images you see here are taken directly from the show. In retropect it's a good thing I didn;'t make it to this show. The state of mind I was in was certainly not a healthy one and I would have wound up needing Rambo AND the Ghostbusters to fish my dead body out of Irrawaddy River in Burma.

I have the Behind the Scenes doco somewhere- I'll post another time.

Check out the youtube's - good stuff. Thailand rocks!

Peace Love

MINIMATES 2011

Dear Minimaniacs,

I just stole a mess of images off of the Art Asylum site and thought I'd share. I sold Art Asylum and Minimates with it in 2006 but Minimates was still my baby and I love seeing the new lines spring forth and prosper. I hope the rest of the AA team that helped create them feels the same way. Against all odds and all competition we created the only brand to come out of that era that is still out there and still growing.

Makes me itch to create the next designer thing soon....have 10 ideas a second. Just want to launch another brand for old times sake and incorporate it into my film work.

FIGHT BITE CRY DIG!

Minimates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minimates are a block-styled miniature action figure originally created by Art Asylum and now released by Diamond Select Toys. The basic Minimate figure design has a 2" tall body that resembles an extremely simplified human form with 14 points of articulation, higher than average for block figures. Lines of Minimates have been released for numerous comic, TV series, movie and video game licenses and are primarily released to specialty retailers and aimed at adult collectors.

History
2" Spider-Man Minimate in early Marvel Minimate packaging

The line began in 2002 with a line of 3" Minimates based on several different licenses. These included Dark AngelStar TrekBruce Lee and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon along with aRock Star line featuring KISSRob ZombieOzzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper. The 3" Minimate Line also included several blank or promotional Minimates, these usually bore the logo of a specific company and were used as give-aways.

Minimates came of age several months later, when following a partnership with Diamond Select Toys a range of 2" Minimates based upon the Marvel Comics Universe was launched. The 2" Minimate body type began to be used for the promotional Minimates in place of the 3" body type, and it was announced that the 3" range would be discontinued. This line was soon joined by a range based upon 'The Lord of the Rings.

Soon a new series joined the line in the form of C3 construction sets, which were accompanied by DC Comics Minimates in the 2" scale. In 2006 2" Minimates based upon the Street Fighter 2 and Darkstalkers video games were released, along with Minimates based upon the classic and new Battlestar Galactica TV series as well as the Speed Racer license.

While Art Asylum has become division of Diamond Select Toys, 2007 has seen the Marvel license continue, along with new lines of DC Comics and Star Trek Minimates and increasing number of TV and Movie based licenses.
